Mahatma Gandhi Missions Medical College, Aurangabad was situated in January 1990 with the permission of Govt. of Maharashtra. The college is recognized by Medical council of India, New Delhi, and MUHS affiliation in 1998 and Deemed University in 2006.M.Sc.Course started in the year 2008 and B.Sc. & Technical Courses started in the Year 2010.

Our Medical College Library is a specialized academic Library. It caters the Educational, academic and research needs of all its users i.e. Undergraduate students, Postgraduate students, Teachers, Doctors, Nurses and other paramedical staff of MGM’s Medical College and attached Hospitals.

Library it consist MBBS, B.Sc., M.Sc. and allied certificate courses students, Teachers, Researchers Scholars. Is a catring need of all the courses run by MGM, MCA.


AIMS & OBJECT

The overall aim of the Medical Library, regardless of its location size or parent organization is to provide organized library services to need the information needs of its clientele in their activities  relating to patient care, education, research, management and any other specialized services.

DEFINITION

Definition of the Medical Library better called health Sciences Library. “The library that is exclusively or predominately concerned with materials and information, whether acquired or accessible in the fields of health sciences and exclusively or largely serves all the needs of members of health allied and related professions and services.


INFRASTUCTURE

There shall be an air-conditioned Central Library floor area (2400 Sq.m) with seating arrangement for at least 300 students for reading and having good lighting and ventilation and space for stocking and display of books and journals. There shall be one room for 150 students inside and one room for 150 students outside.

 There shall be provision for –

1.Rooms for librarian and other staff;

2.Staff reading room for 30 persons;

3.Journal room

4.Room for copying facilities;

5.Video and Cassette room (desirable);

6.Air-conditioned Computer room with Medlar and Internet facility with minimum of 40 nodes. Medical colleges should have skill labs and adopt information technology in teaching medicine. There shall be provision for e-library also.

BOOK BANK:-

Two Separate collections of book bank are available and are attached to and managed by the library. Only undergraduate textbooks are purchased for the book bank.

Book bank facility is provided to SC & ST students. A complete set of books is issued to them for the tenure of their study.

Social welfare department book bank for S.C. /S.T. students. This book bank was stated in January 1994 with the special grant from the social welfare department. Govt.of Maharashtra 1437 books have so far been added in this Book Bank. This service ceased from 2012.

MGM’s Medical College, Book Bank for open Category students. This Book Bank was started in July 1995.Expenditure on the Book Bank is entirely met from the institutional funds. 3036 books have as on 4th Nov.2017 so far been added in this Book Bank. This Book Bank now lends books to SC/ST students also.

E-LIBRARY (DIGITAL LIBRARY)

This has provided 40 computers in E-Library with leased line interim net access. A wide range of electronic journals-Books & Online Databases are available for P.G.Students, Teaching staff & researchers to access.


E-JOURNALS & DATABASES

The library is having 2074 e-books, e-journals (National & International),abstracts, newsletters etc.free access through MUHS Digital Library, at Nasik. The Central Library also have EBSCOHOST Medline complete database, containing full text for more than 2100 journals. The database contains the full text coverage of medical journals dating back to 1865. Capabilities to search citations from more than 5400 current biomedical journals included in MEDLINE.


FACILITIES AND SERVICES

Reference service/information service is the personal contact service by the library staff to readers in finding out the relevant document of his demand.Central Library is performing the following type of service to the readers.

1. Answering to the queries.

2. Personal help to the readers.

3. Inter Library loan services.

4. Reprograpical services to the readers.

5. Preparation of bibliographies of the books on demand.

6. Documentation work on demand.(CAS/SDI)

7. Content Analysis Service.

8. Newspaper Clipping Service.

9. Drinking water facility is available with water purifier.
10.Ladies & Gents Toilet-Latrine facility is available.

11.Library is providing reservation/claim of Books.

12. Library staff always assists to users in searching of E- Resources

13. Scanning services.

14. Library also offers Library conducts training programme on Searching CD-ROM database for all the faculty members of the college, UG & PG students.

GENERAL CONDUCT IN THE LIBRARY

Library is not responsible for any loss of personal belongings. Smoking, Beverages & Eatables are not allowed into the library. Please keep your mobiles in silent mode. Kindly Co-operate with library staff for serving you in the better way


CENTRAL LIBRARY READING HALL RULES:-

1) Complete silence should be maintained in the reading hall.

2) Do not write anything on the table top or draw any picture or design on it or on any other piece of furniture or walls.

3) Do not sit on the reading table.

4) Do not throw chocolate wrappers, Gutka pouches, chewing gum remnant or any other rubbish in any part of the library.
5) Spiting or smoking in the library is strictly prohibited.

6) Do not indulge in loud gossips, conversation or discussion (academic or otherwise) in the library.

7) Do not use mobile in the reading hall or in any other part of the library.

8) Your mobile phone should be switched off as you are in the library.

10) Recharging of mobile phone instrument by using, power point in the library is strictly prohibited.

11) Do not talk loudly on your mobile phone in the vicinity of the library.


CENTRAL LIBRARY RULES

1) Only bonafide and regular students of this institute will be the member of the library.

2) Be in uniform, whenever you come to the library.

3) One photograph must be submitted at the time of applying for membership of the library.
4) Have your identity card with you which must be produced on demand.

5) Observe complete silence in all section of the library.

6) Personal belongings like bags, box etc. Shall not be taken in the library.

7) Handle library books periodicals furniture and other property carefully. If the library book is damaged or lost the student shall replace the copy of book & pay penalty as fixed by the dean.

8) The following scheme of issuing books exists in the library.
1) Book bank: MGM book bank for open category students and for SC/ST students.
2) At a time only one book on reader’s card (library card) will be issued for one week only. 3) For seminar one or two books will be issued on i card only which should be read only in the library.

9) Reference books/handbooks/textbook shall be made available only in the library/reading room on identity card in the library working hours. If any student, does not return the book before closing hours of the library. It will be viewed seriously & disciplinary action may be taken. Fine will be charged as per rule.

10) For returning of books after the due date a fine of Rs. 10/- per day per book shall be charged and overdue fine will be Rs. 1/- per day.

11) In any suggestions or complains are there, please put them in “Suggestion box”.

CENTRAL LIBRARY RULES FOR EX/OUTER STUDENTS

1 I Card is compulsory whenever they enter in MGM Medical College campus / Library.

2 Ex/Outer students present or absent in reading hall, pay the full fees for one year.

3 Keep silence in every corner of the Library.

4 Do not sign on any document on MGM’s UG & PG students demand on any matter pertaining to Library, otherwise admission will be cancelled.

5 Do not involve any matter of MGM Medical College.

6 Mobile charging should be avoided.

7 Discussion will not be allowed.

8 Visitors are not allowed.

9 Belongings are kept out side of the chair or corner of the reading Hall. Only books and note books are kept on reading table.

10 Six months fees and deposit paid at the time of admission

11 Ex/Outer student Library deposit should be collected within one Month from the result of the both examination. Otherwise the Admission will be cancelled for continuing the admission re-procedure will be follow.
